One of the oldest and most widespread ,distinctive, and distinguished varieties of Piemonte. Nebbiolo is responsible for some of the finest wines of Italy. Light in colour, high in both acid and tannin and exhibits a haunting array of aromas including tar, leaf mould, dried cherries, violets and roses. The wines have the ability to express the sutitilies of terrior. Late ripening, vigorous and very fussy about soils it seems to have found a home in Australia on the red volcanic soils of the NSW Hilltops region. 

 

Vineyard: These nebbiolo grapes were grown on red volcanic soils at an elevation of 530m.The vineyard is situated at Young the heart of the Hilltops region

Harvest date: 30th March 2015

Winemakers notes: The fruit was warm fermented in traditional open vats which were hand plunged. The wine was aged in oak barrels for 18 months prior to blending.

Tasting notes: This wine is light brick red in colour with aromas of roses and violets typical of the variety. The pallet is balanced with a clean acid and light tannin finish

Cellaring: This wine is ideal for consumption now and will cellar well for 4 to 6 years.

Food Match: Roasted lamb rack served with cumin glazed carrots and roasted rosemary potatoes with a classic red wine jus on the side

Vineyard: This wine is produced from grapes grown at Pothana Vineyard on sandy loam soils. The vines are over 30 years old and low yielding,producing less than 2 tonnes per acre annually.

Harvest date: 25 January 2016

Winemakers notes: The grapes were hand picked and whole bunched pressed. The juice was cold settled for 36 hours, racked then cool fermented at 15 degrees Celsius. The wine spent a short time on lees to build complexity before filtering and bottling to retain a fresh crisp citrus style so typical of Belford Semillon.

Tasting notes: The wine is bright lime green in colour with clean crisp Semillon characters on the nose. The rich citrus fruit flavours are complimented by a grassy herbaceous lift. The palate is long with a soft lingering after taste and a crisp lemon acid finish.

Cellaring: This wine is ideal for consumption now and will cellar well for 6 to 8 years.

Belford Pinot Noir 2014

Vineyard: This wine is produced from grapes grown at Pothana Vineyard .The vines are over 27 years old and low yielding,producing less than 2 tonnes per acre annually.

Harvest date: 1 February 2014.

Winemakers notes: The grapes were hand picked. Whole and crushed fruit was layered into traditional open vats for fermentation. The grapes were fermented warm and hand plunged. After fermentation the wine was stored in French barrels for 12 months and then lightly fined and filtered before bottling.

Tasting notes: The wine is medium cherry red in in colour

Cellaring: This wine is ideal for consumption now and will cellar well for 6 to 8 years.

Belford Chardonnay 2014

Vineyard: This wine is produced from grapes grown at Pothana Vineyard on sandy loam with limestone sub soils. The vines are 30 years old and low yielding, producing less than 2 tonnes per acre annually.

Harvest date: 26 January 2014

Winemakers notes: The grapes were hand picked and whole bunch pressed. The resulting juice was settled for 24 hours. The wine was fermented and matured in 30% new French oak barrels with the balance being in 2 and 3 year old French barrels. It was stored on lees for 6 months prior to bottling.

Tasting notes: The wine is pale gold in colour with youthful green tinges. The aroma is intense with a complex bouquet of citrus and peach fruit characters. Barrel fermentation adding charred oak and cashew nut to the nose and palate. The flavours of stone fruit and lemon zest are sustained with fresh acid and toasty oak in a rich well structured wine.

Cellaring: 4 to 6 years.
