The 2014 vintage was unique…
Good winter rain was followed by a near perfect growing season produced grapes with incredible concentration of flavour. The 2014 vintage was unique in that we could pick when we wanted and not go through the usual fear of rain setting in. Although we experienced warm hot summer we avoided serious heat wave conditions that effected large parts of the country. I don’t think I have experienced such a relaxed vintage nor a vintage that produced such quality fruit. So look out for the 2014 vintage when it arrives. The first wines to be released will be the 2014 Old Vines Semillon and 2014 Reserve Riesling in June.
So as the 2014 slowly settled down in the winery it’s time to sit down and enjoy the beautiful Autumn weather and some great reds in our Club Pack.
Two wines in the pack are from the 2012 vintage, a lovely soft plumy merlot and everyone’s favourite the david hook shiraz (orange label). An eminently drinkable Hunter shiraz.
We have included two barberas for you in this pack. The Central Ranges barbera (this wine won the trophy for the BEST Italian variety wine at the NSW Small Winemakers Wine Show for the second year in a row). The other barbera is from our Hunter Valley vineyard. This gives you the opportunity to compare and contrast. The cooler climate of Central Ranges produce wines with great intensity of flavour, a lovely natural acidity. The Hunter barbera is slightly richer and softer and displays a slightly earthy character typical of the valleys red wines.
The two youngsters in the pack are from 2013, Reserve Pinot Noir is from our 30 year old pinot vineyard at Pothana. This wine displays fresh strawberry and cherry flavours with an earthy background, characteristics of a Hunter Pinot Noir.
