Spring News

It’s been a long cold winter in The Hunter, which the vines have enjoyed but not so the pruners. However, the snow skiing season was very good and it has been a great winter to enjoy a few good reds and even a glass of port. But now with vines starting to shoot there is a touch of spring in the air, it’s time to consider some whites for those Spring lunches ahead.

To help you we have put together a Wineclub Pack that features some young fresh wines to contrast with a couple of older wines, and a blended wine to compare with the varietal wines.

The two young wines in the pack are the 2014 Pinot Grigio and the 2014 Reserve Chardonnay. 2014 was a great season and both these wines reflect the favourably growing conditions. The Pinot Grigio is fresh and lively with wonderful fruit intensity, while the chardonnay is looking like the best we have made. Elegant with a touch of oak and great drinking. The Reserve Chardonnay is only available to club members through our cellar. Please give Gai a call (0249987121) to get your summer six pack!
Your pack includes the new release of 2013 Reserve De Novo Bianco. With time we are slowly beginning to understand the vineyards on Mount Canobolas where these grapes are grown. Experience in the cellar is helping us produce a wine that reflects the vineyard and it’s own unique style.
The 2011 Old Vines Chardonnay is the first of the older wines. Still fresh with a complex bouquet of citrus and peach, now fully integrated with the oak and cashew nut palate. A wine in its prime.
We have just released the 2010 Old Vines Semillon. This was a classic Hunter Semillon when young and still has a crisp vibrant acidity providing great structure. Four years in the cellar has now let the lovely grass / herb / lemongrass flavours come to the fore. This wine will be available on our website and at our cellar, however, the quantities are restricted and are small. So please be sure you don’t miss out.
The last wine in your pack is the perennial favourite the “fabulous” 2013 Mosto. It’s the perfect wine to end that Spring lunch accompanied by new season fruits and cheese.

We only enter one or two wine shows a year and usually the local Hunter Valley Wine Show. We are pleased to report a very successful result from the recent 2014 show with four medals. The most successful wine being the recently released 2013 Old Vines Shiraz. This wine was awarded a Gold Medal in the 2013 Shiraz Named Vineyard Class, the judges describing the top wines to have found an effortless balance and harmonious fruit. Don’t forget to have a close look at this wine next time you are at our cellar. Definitely a wine to consider for your cellar, a wine with great potential. This wine is available online.

N.S.W. Small Winemakers Wine Show

We have also been awarded a Trophy and Gold Medal at the 2014 N.S.W. Small Winemakers Wine Show . The 2014 Riesling being judged the Best Off Dry White Table Wine. Quantities are limited so be quick to make sure you don’t miss out.

When you are visiting the cellar please mention that you are one of our members or even better, ring ahead and book a time for a tasting. We love seeing you and showing you our wines.
