We have just about completed rebuilding after the heavy rain in late April resulted in severe flooding. Fortunately there was no major damage to the vineyard itself, however, the boundary fences and roads required significant repairs. So, we have had a busy winter pruning, fencing and road building. Good late winter rain has insured a great start to the season with the chardonnay in full budburst! Lets hope the predicated El Nino is not too severe, but I can assure you that after the last wet Summer and Autumn flooding we would actually enjoy a dry season.
Enough of the woes of viticulture and onto more interesting topics, The September Issue Cast Off Wine Pack! There are two 2015 vintage Hunter whites in your pack. Although it was regarded as a difficult vintage, the grapes had good flavour and with careful selection produced wines that we are particularly pleased with. The Pinot Grigio has a good complexity and richness of flavour, while the Semillon is a great early drinking style but probably not one for the cellar this year.
In the Spring Edition of The Selector Magazine our 2012 Old Vines Chardonnay was featured in an interesting article. The article discussed the renaissance of Chardonnay, and the Top 24 wines. Our Old Vines being described as refined and seamlessly integrated. We agree and believe the 2012 is drinking at it’s prime now. We have also included our 2013 Old Vines Chardonnay to give you a sneak preview, due for release later in the year.
The 2013 De Novo Bianco continues to improve with cellaring, and we have included the wine so you can once again enjoy this varietal blend with it’s layers of flavor.
The last wine in your pack is the 2015 CR Riesling. It has been several years since this wine has been in a club pack. We were so impressed with the quality of this wine we felt it needed to be included. A great follow up to the highly acclaimed Trophy Winning 2014. This off dry style is extremely versatile, and is great with Asian food.
I am sure you will enjoy these wines!
