2019 Autumn Newsletter

The cool weather has finally arrived. It's time to for your Autumn “Vintage Membership" Pack.

The last week has been busy organising the harvest of the final vineyards for 2019.Trying to leave the grapes to ripen as long as possible in the beautiful autumn conditions, while organising picking just before the approaching wet weather and cooler conditions can be a little stressful. However our last grapes arrived on Friday in excellent condition. Pinot Noir from Orange and Nebbiolo from Hilltops, possibly the best Nebbiolo grapes we have grown.Concluding yet again another particularly hot dry but successful vintage.

So now it is time to open the shed and send out your Autum Vintage Packs

The youngster in your pack is the 2018 Shiraz. This wine although young is still quite soft and elegant with beautiful friut reflecting what a great vintage 2018 was, and a exciting preview of the wines to come.

The two italian varietals are the 2017 Central Ranges Barbera and the 2017 Reserve Hunter Valley Sangiovese. The Barbera are most popular and highly acclaimed wine is a little more medium bodied this year with bright red cherry frui and a crunchy acidity. Good drinking and great with winter pasta meals. The Sangiovese is not dissimilar with fresh cherry aromas with a softer and savoury palate, and that slight earthiness,a character of all good Hunter red wines.

The 2017 Westcourt Lane Cabernet is our first individual vinyard Cabernet wine.From old unirragated vines  grown at Mudgee a district renowned for its Cabernet's. This wine has ripe fruit and a rich full bodied palate, an ideal accompaniment to hearty winter casseroles.

We have included the new bottling of the Dickies Blend. Now quite tawny in colour, reflecting the age of the wines in the cellar we are using for this blend.The wine has some lovely rancio characters with a lift of sweet raisin fruit. A wine to be enjoyed over the coming cooler evenings.

The final wine is the popular Sparkling Rose, made entire from Sangiovese it has fresh cherry fruit aromas and a savoury finish this is the perfect Autumn Sunday lunch wine. To be enjoyed chilled while relaxing in the afternoon, the hot dry summer a distant memory.

We have finally had some rain to help settle the dust. The valley is once again looking soft and green. Its the perfect time to visit and to relax and forget about the politics and election.A tasting at the cellar seems to be just the antidote needed for time out from busy schedules.
